YouTube Day 6

This is Ben’s lesson plan

Objectives: Students will

  • Have DaVinci resolve or other editing program
  • Import footage to program and timeline
  • Make basic cuts and trims
  • Sync video and audio
  • Make a title
  • Export a video

Files needed: Talking head clip, audio to sync with talking head, b roll

Intro (5 min):

  • Download files
  • Hook: show an I switched video
  • Open up DaVinci
  • Question of the day: What was your favorite part of the class, or a question I have not answered yet

DaVinci Resolve: Free editor, my favorite editor (5 min)

  • There are 7 tabs along the bottom, we really only care about the edit tab and the deliver tab for this class
    • the other tabs do lot of cool things, but for now just know that if you don’t recognize the layout you probably just clicked on another tab
  • Timeline

Import footage (2 min):

Sync Video and Audio (5 min):

  • Concept: the clap
  • Select both clips, right click, sync audio by wave form
  • If that does not work then sync them manually
  • Place on timeline, check to make sure the clap is matching up
  • Increase volume

Cutting and Trimming (10 min):

  • We have done this before
  • Concept: Jump cut

Broll overlay (5 min):

  • Demo: how to put a b roll clip on the top layer
  • Concept fade in
  • Activity: choose, place and trim one of the b roll clips (3 min)

Make a Title (10 min):

  • Add a title from the effects panel
  • Concept key frames

Export Video (5 min)

  • Rocket tab > choose youtube to get 1080p settings
  • Give it a name
  • Choose browse to set the file location you want to save to
  • Add to render queue > Start Render on right side

Conclusion (5 min):

  • That is it, you are ready, begin your youtube channel if you haven’t already. If you followed all the steps in this course you have a plan, now all you have to do is execute it
  • The best thing you can do is after you make and upload a video is look at it, and say this is one thing that I will do differently to improve
