Premiere Day 3: Animation, Green Screen, and Coloring

Under The Sea

Keyframing

  • Any effect can be keyframed so that it changes overtime.
  • Practice this with color ( color effect info below), lens flare, blur etc.

Using layered Photoshop files–Under the SEA

  • Dialog box to import
  • Can choose how bring the layers in
  • Can merge them all or choose to merge some. Or you can just bring in certain layers.
  • Let’s choose to leave them as individual layers. This takes planning when you’re creating your Photoshop document.
  • Make a folder for your files to keep them organized.
  • Make different video tracks for each layer
  • Everyone should take Photoshop now!

Animating clip position

  • Move something off the stage, we want the text to start off screen
  • Open the Effect Panel and expand the Motion effect section.
  • Click the clock to have Premiere remember where it is at this time
  • Move in time, then change the value to put the text on stage
    • Expand the panel to see the key frames that have been created. Click to delete
  • You can also delete all of the keyframes by deselecting the clock

Keying/Green screening

  • Ultra Key is the best keying tool I’ve used. The others are pretty similar. Here is a link to the Adobe page with more info on what is different
  • Show the students on the first clip “Jonathan.MTS”
  • Simply type in Ultra Key in the Effects panel and drag the effect onto the clip.
  • The Effect will then appear in the Effects Panel
  • Click on the Eyedropper and then click on the background of you clip to remove it.
  • Most of the Green is gone, but there are still some shadows.
  • You can choose a different preset under Setting to try to fix it. For example “Aggressive” helps a lot.
  • If you don’t use a preset, you can play around with all the options
  • However sometimes, it does too much and cuts into your subject. Tolerance, Shadow, and Pedestal help a lot, but be careful and watch the edges of your subject. Soften can make them look too fuzzy.
  • After you’ve got rid of most of the shadow around the subject, use the Gargabe Matte Effect for the rest.
  • You can use the Four, Eight, or Sixteen point Garbage matte. Usually Four is sufficient.
  • Drag the Four Garbage Matte effect onto the clip, click on the effect in the Effects Panel, and adjust the points in the Program Monitor to be close around the speaker.

  • Let the students practice on the Huey.MTS clip and also Giddy Britton.MTS. They can practice dragging in video clips behind the Giddy Britton and lining it up with when he pressed the button the computer to “change the background.” Use Markers to make sure you know when he presses the button in the computer and therefore when you should have cut.
