Day 1: Content
Content
Do not fear! Jed teaches most of this class. He goes over design principles, and shows students good and bad conference posters.
Example of a GOOD poster:
You will just teach for the last 20 minutes or so, working in Google Sheets/Docs.
Charts and Tables
Practice File: tiny.cc/cpd2018 (cpd must be lowercase)
This is the part you teach. Basically you go through this presentation.
Have students go to the link and go through the presentation with you, because that is how they will get the actual practice files.
Your goal is to simplify charts and tables to be simple, clean, and beautiful.
Show them these gifs:

Now let’s apply.
Go through the presentation and simplify the chart or table (you will probably only have time for one) step-by-step, following the tutorials. You need to practice doing this by yourself when prepping for this class, because it is NOT as easy/intuitive as you might imagine! Do not try and “wing it.”
Emphasize that we’re not just trying to make them do busy work, but having them do it themselves will help solidify the principle of “less is more” in their minds.
