Procreate Competency


Level 1

Demonstrate skill with:

  • Customize preferences and shortcuts
    • Disable accidental brush strokes caused by fingers touching the screen
    • Undo with your fingers
    • Clearing an entire layer at once
    • Adjusting the pen pressure (note: the higher the arch, the less hard you will have to push to make brush strokes)
    • Pressure and stabilization, what it does to your brush and how to turn it on or off
    • Pinch & zoom or making the picture full screen
    • Customizing the “quick menu”
    • Saving a brush size or opacity setting (tap on the bar in the sliders and hit the plus sign to save a size)
    • Procreate interface
  • Editing
    • Create layers, and merge layers by pinching.
    • Customize a canvas
    • Creating a stack, file naming, gallery preview
    • Cropping canvas

    • Use at least 3 brushes with different stroke patterns

5. Know what the options are for QuickShape, and when we can and can’t edit

Demonstrate skill with:

  • Animation
    • Creating gifs – how to export animations as a gif or video
    • Onion skins – how to change their color, how to adjust how many are showing as you animate
    • Frame rate, what does it do?
    • How is duplicate useful in animation?
    • Timelapse videos
  • Advanced Layer Settings
    • Blending modes and effects
    • Layer opacity, deleting, duplicating, locking, and using “N.”
    • Inserting images into canvas
    • Selections and scaling
    • Clipping mask
    • Alpha lock

4. While mainly used for photography, what is the purpose of cloning in procreate?
5. Explain how to use clipping mask and alpha lock, and what the difference is.
6. How do you create a color palette?
7. Explain the different buttons at the bottom of the color panel, know what they do and how to use them. Ex disc, classic, harmony.
