Sound/Recording Booths Ocarina
NOTE: It’s highly recommended that you earn the Garageband Badge before or in conjunction with earning this badge!
Learn about the three sound recording booths that are available in the lab. Be able to answer questions and resolve simple issues in these booths when the equipment room isn’t open.
Things to learn:
- The difference between the three booths
- Reservation procedures and policies
- How to check patrons in and out in Libcal and Workflows
- What to check for when closing
Then:
- Find a time to reserve the recording booth apart from your normal desk hours. Get permission from Ben, clock in, and practice using Soundbooth 3. Learn as much as you can about the following beforehand to make the process go smoothly.
- How to use the lights
- How to record in GarageBand using the basic mic setup
- How to export a Garageband file as an MP3
- The other programs available on the computer
- How to make sure monitoring works
- Connect a second mic
- Connect the instrument cable
- At some point, record a project and make sure you use:
- The keyboard (both audio and MIDI functions)
- Both mics (so you know how to set different tracks to different mics in Garageband)
- Input monitoring (so you can hear out of the headphones while you’re recording. This is especially important for the keyboardist!)
